Welcome to the NICHEportal – an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and cultural learning portal for medical practitioners.

NICHEportal is an initiative of the Specialist Medical Colleges of Australia. It is a central information point for educational resources for doctors who care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and patients. It aims to ensure that these health and cultural learning resources meet the aims and standards of the Committee of Presidents of Medical Colleges (CPMC) National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Medical Specialist Framework.

NICHEportal seeks to encourage a multi-disciplinary approach to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health care through easier access to learning activities, engagement with other professionals and the formation of networks and communities of practice.

Our Audience

Medical Colleges including Fellows, affiliates, trainees, international medical graduates (college program) and college staff

Medical Practitioners including hospital interns, nurses, allied health staff and international medical graduates (area of need)

University including medical students and medical researchers.

Public access to activities and resources is available to unrestricted activities and resources.

NACCHO is the national peak Aboriginal health body representing Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services throughout Australia.

The Australian Indigenous Doctors’ Association Ltd (AIDA)

AIDA is a not-for-profit, non-government organisation dedicated to the pursuit of leadership, partnership & scholarship in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, education and workforce.

NICHEportal video overview

The NICHEportal was officially launched on Friday 23rd October 2015 at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Spring Street, Melbourne.
This video, which was shown on the night, was commissioned to celebrate the launch and to highlight the resources available through the portal.
